I went to Macau in September 1987 to visit Father Mario Acquistapache, the only living war veteran priest at that time (http://archives.catholic.org.hk/memory/M-Acquistapace.htm) and guardian of the relics of the bones of St. Francis Xavier and the vietnamese and japanese martyrs. I was 27 years old then. He gave me a postcard with his signature which I hold very dear. Father Mario remains to be a figure of faith and inspiration to me as he was a nice friend to talk to. Macau was then a part of Portugal and was called Coloane, a very silent place. Now Macau is bustling with lights and casinos. A part of western culture is brought there and a multitude of branded shops. It has lost its old ancestry. Now, you can ride the gondolas in Venice or just go to Macau and ride the fake Gondolas in Venetian Hotel. Oh my (sigh).......They already transferred the relics of Saint Francis Xavier somewhere out of Macau.
